BLOOD PROGRAM:

In 1943-1945, the Rochester, New York, Bloodmobile Unit visited Elmira, New York on a quarterly basis. Blood donors were recruited through all of Bradford County Chapter's Units. Transportation was arranged by the carloads from Athens, Sayre, Wyalusing, Canton, and Troy branches. One hundred twenty-five went from the Troy Area during the two year period. Three hundred went quarterly from Sayre-Athens. A large number went from Canton, Wysox, Rummerfield, Towanda, LeRaysville, Camptown, Herrick, and Stevensville. Many people gave, not only once, but two and three times and a few even four times from the summer of 1943 to January 1945. When the program closed, 2500 pints of blood were donated during the period.

In 1950, the blood program was introduced in Bradford County by the Chapter. Rita MacDonald, Executive Secretary, must be given credit for the excellent results we have had with the program for she had been involved with this program for over 42 years.

This is an ongoing program that keeps on growing. There are numerous persons who donate their time and services and without their support and the support of the donors, this program wouldn't be the success that it is today.
